The Brower VP221K is the brass base valve in the VP2 series, the range that replaced the older VP1 valves. It is built for low pressure systems, generally anything running under 60 PSI, and the 1/4 inch orifice is the wider of the two openings Brower offers so a low pressure line can still fill the trough at a reasonable rate.

The VP221K carries a 1/4 inch diameter orifice for low pressure.

  • Brass thread for longevity
  • Greater flow rate, because the plunger travels a longer distance than it did on the VP1
  • Greater tolerance to operation in dirty conditions
  • No diaphragm, cam link or power link, which means fewer maintenance items
  • Easily replaces the VP1 valve and is designed with fewer parts to create increased water flow

Note. The fully assembled valve part numbers are VP221, VP223, VP224, VP226 and VP227. The last two numbers on the VP2 match up with the VP1 valve, so a drinker that originally took a VP124 takes a VP224, and one that took a VP121 takes the VP221.

The VP221 looks a great deal like the VP226, but it is not the same valve. The VP226 is the high pressure version with the smaller 1/8 inch orifice.

Installation Recommendations

Valve hook up suggestions for better service

  • Flush lines thoroughly to remove all foreign material
  • DURAPRIDE Valve should not be subjected to excessive tool pressures at any time
  • Hold inlet pipe securely while connecting to water supply line
  • The valve to be hand tightened only. When replacing valve base to pipe fittings- use Teflon tape or pipe seal, hand tighten plus one half turn with 1" socket of box end wrench.
