4 in. float
Hoskins runs a simple mechanical level control: this float rides the surface, a rod links it back to the Bob valve, and the valve opens as the water falls away. Hoskins sets it out the same way on their parts page, with the rod attaching to the Bob valve and then to the float.
A sinking float reads as a high tank
Water inside the float is the usual culprit when a trough starts sitting fuller than it was set. The extra mass holds the valve cracked open. Pull it, shake it, and if it sloshes it is finished.
Detail

- Float only, no rod or valve supplied
Where it belongs
Any Hoskins unit running a Bob valve on a rod uses a float. Rod lengths of 4, 6 and 8 in. are fixed by the unit, and the float is the same regardless of which rod yours takes.
Units on the GP valve do not use one
On units that use the 3/8 in. GP valve assembly, successor to the discontinued RM 153, the float is part of the assembly itself. No rod, no separate float. A spec plate calling out a 4, 6 or 8 in. rod means you are on the right page.
