500W element, 240 volts
The 240 volt winding of the Hoskins 500 watt element, around 2.1 amps, for units fed at 240 rather than 120.
Bare element, not the whole heater
This part is the heating element on its own leads. Hoskins also builds a complete heater, a galvanized box with the element, blower, thermostat and cord already assembled, which is a different line at a much higher price. If the housing on yours is sound and only the element has gone, this is what you want.
Detail
- Rating: 500W, 240V, approximately 2.1 A
- Termination: bare leads for a hard wired connection
- Position: frame mounted, away from the tank wall
Which thermostat
Elements in the A and AA family pair with the small thermostat. Ratings of B, 2B, C, 2C or 3C call for the large one.
Check the supply first
Voltage is not a preference on an element, it is a specification. A 240 volt element on a 120 volt circuit produces about a quarter of its rating and will not hold a tank open in a cold snap. A 120 volt element on 240 volts fails outright. Read the plate on the element you are pulling.
Circuit notes
Hoskins asks for #8 copper back to the panel, a ground rod driven eight feet at the unit, and a GFCI breaker wherever code calls for one. Their installation sheet carries a conductor sizing table for runs out to 400 feet on 115 to 120 volt service. Hoskins recommends a licensed electrician.
