A VP2 valve almost never fails at the base. It fails at the front, where the arm pivots and the plunger meets the seat, and that is exactly what this kit replaces. If your Pride of the Farm waterer has started to seep, or the trough keeps creeping up after it should have shut off, this is the repair.
The kit carries the 1/4 inch orifice, which is the wider of the two sizes Hawkeye Steel builds for the VP2. A wider opening is what lets a lower pressure supply still bring a trough back up at a sensible rate, so this is the version for systems running under about 60 PSI. It fits the VP221 and the VP224.
You do not have to break the plumbing
The valve base and the assembly nut stay where they are, still threaded to your supply line. You are only taking the front half off, which is why this repair goes quickly and why it can be done with the water shut off at the yard hydrant rather than at the wall.
One more thing worth knowing. The orifices interchange across the whole VP2 family, so if your water pressure has changed since the waterer went in, the orifice is the piece that adapts the valve to it. You are not locked into the size it shipped with.
