How to tell if this is your valve. Look at the base where the valve threads into the waterer. If it is brass rather than poly, and the opening measures about a quarter inch, the VP221 is the one you want. If the base is poly, order the VP224K instead.

Which pressure. The 1/4 inch orifice is the low pressure option, for systems under 60 PSI. Higher pressure systems use the smaller 1/8 inch orifice found on the VP226.

Why it holds up. The VP2 series has no diaphragm, no cam link and no power link. That removes the parts that usually fail first and leaves a valve that tolerates dirty water. The plunger travels farther than the VP1 it replaces, so the flow is better.

The fully assembled VP2 valves are the VP221, VP223, VP224, VP226 and VP227. The last two digits match the VP1 valve they replace.
