The Ritchie Industries 12575 Red 1/2" Valve is a medium-pressure valve designed to regulate water flow in automatic waterers. Rated for water pressures between 40-60 PSI, it delivers an average flow rate of 3.4 gallons per minute. This valve is standard in models such as WaterMatic 100 & 150, Omni 1 & 2, Omni-2 Special, EcoFount 1 & 2, Genesis 1 & 2, and others.

I am very pleased with your prompt customer service and have the new valve (red)and elbow (black/white). (Cold winter weather caused the elbow to crack.) However it is still leaking a steady drip, even though we have carefully screwed them together and in fact put some plumbers tape in. So, bottom line, until I can have a neighbor unscrew it once again and put even more plumbers tape in, I cannot use the waterer as it overflows with the constant leak/drip. Any suggestions?

Thank you for your order and for your inquiry. I reviewed your order and see that you had purchased the Red valve, 12575 and the 16287 elbow with adapter. This indicates to me that you have the Ritchie CT1 waterer. From the sounds of it, I suspect that you may be dealing with a high water pressure issue that is causing it to leak around the seams or it some how became cross threaded. Also, ensure that you have the water level set so that the ball closures are about 1/2' - 1' below the rim and not tight against the top. Double check to make sure that the float is not water logged or full of deposits that is causing it to be weighed down.
If you're having freezing in the winter, ensure that you are filling the water seal grooves under the top valve chamber cover and between the red top and yellow base with water. This creates a seal and prevents cold air from penetrating the inside of the unit. If you have electricity at the unit, you can always add a self-regulating heat cable that will protect the valve and waterline. Otherwise, if you do not meet the requirement of having at least 10 head drinking from the unit (cattle or horses) you may consider scooping water out of the trough throughout the day to replicate drinking and cycle in the warmer water. The parts worked fine. No problem.
But I paid extra for UPS shipping $14+ and it came USPS instead. I presume that that would have been cheaper.
